| Most of our images are available for instant download in multiple sizes and format. Scroll to the bottom of each product page to check on the images size, format, and Dpi settings. Resolution is the images size or pixel dimensions. For example, 4320px x 3240px, is our typical resolution for our High Resolution Images. The typical dimensions for our Medium Resolution Images is 1600px x 1200px, while our Low Resolution Images are typically 800px x 600px. Just about everyone of our downloadable images has a Dpi setting of 300. Dpi stands for dots per inch. Basically, the more dots per inch you have in a picture, the more detail is present. An 800px x 600px image at 300 Dpi is a lot sharper than an 800px x 600px image at 72 Dpi. There are simply more dots to spread across that particular image size. Our High Resolution Image downloads are all in .tif format while our Medium and Low Resolution Image downloads come in .jpg format. .tif format is the most versatile to work with. It may be altered in photo editing software like Photoshop or Fireworks with the least amount of degradation to the original file. .tif files are typically what professionals use for magazine and print jobs. .jpg files are most typical on the web and for smaller print tasks. They download quicker, take up less storage space on your computer and are still as sharp as most can tell. When altered in image editing software, their degradation is more than .tif files. When any image is increased in resolution, such as taking a 4320px x 3240px image and enlarging it to an 8000px x 6000px image, it will most likely become pixalated, or grainy. If the Dpi stayed the same, then you still only have so many dots per inch to go around. Increasing the images width and height will spread these finite pixels further than you may desire. You may decrease the size of an image with virtually no penalty, and usually provides for a sharper image with the same amount of pixels packed into a smaller area. |
