| Southern New Mexico New Mexico Is……….. Carlsbad……Spectacular scenes deep beneath the surface that cause one to think about and wonder at the power of nature. Wind and Rattlesnakes……….. Roswell………..Another manifestation of nature???? Spoke at lemgth with two gentlemen who were participants in the “Roswell Incident”. One more mystery to ponder. Constant wind and lots of rattlesnakes……….. Lincoln…………Just a small mystery here, was Billy The Kid a good guy or a bad guy???? An interesting town, not much changed since the 1850s . A walk through the courthouse, the hotel and lunch in the Saloon make it easy to feel the presence of Billy, Sheriff Garrett and the other pioneers who struggled to expand their world and ours. The wind is still blowing and Rattlesnake warnings are everywhere……… Ruidoso………A bit of Vermont set down in the west. A typical New England ski town, a pleasant place to overnight… The next day brought raging wildfires to follow close behind as we continue around the mountain. That wind was great for the fire, which wasn’t to good for the Rattlesnakes….. Three Sisters…… The remains of a pre-historic Indian Village and Petroglyph site. A rugged hike up a mountainside is rewarded by the sight of hundreds of drawings carved into rocks that have remained intact since the 1400s to 1000s. The drawings are a clear depiction of the life lived then. The solitude on the mountaintop, surrounded only by nature, is a perfect setting to contemplate what has gone before. Had to brace ourselves against the wind though and watch our footing for rattlers… White Sands………Another marvel of Nature. Great white dunes, constantly moving and changing their boundaries, yet unable to swallow the Cactus that manage to reach their heads just above the sand and continue to live and grow. In 90 degree, summertime temperature, I was able to go “sledding” on the dunes. We have had a taste of New Mexico and shall return to Northern section for a bigger bite in Sept…. Oh! And by the way, did I mention the wind and snakes? |
