Editorial Review:
When seventeen-year-old Valerie runs away to New York City, she's trying to escape a life that has utterly betrayed her. Sporting a new identity, she takes up with a gang of squatters who live in the city's labyrinthine subway system.
But there's something eerily beguiling about Val's new friends. And when one talks Val into tracking down the lair of a mysterious creature with whom they are all involved, Val finds herself torn between her newfound affection for an honorable monster and her fear of what her new friends are becoming.

My first faery I was surprised by this book. First because of how the book opens, I won't put a spoiler in this review but I will say it hits a shock button. a great book! i loved this story! its colorful and imaginative but mixed well with elements of real life like drug abuse and homelessness. this story could possibly be better than the first story in the series. a definite read if you love fantasy
chewing gum for the teenie mind A girl, Val, falls out with her mom and runs away to New York, where she hangs out with weird dropouts and gets involved in a murder mystery that involves real faeries. In the process, she learns how to fence, becomes addicted to faerie dust, fights that addiction, falls in love with a faerie and saves him, punishes the bad faeries, then returns home and forgives her mom.
It's easy to read this book and in fact I almost did it in one seating - and there's nothing wrong with that. The story flows... more info
I liked it. I just finished this after reading Tithe, and I have to give Black credit for making guys who are not openly attractive seem desirable-lol. Ravus is a troll for crying out loud with green skin and a fanged underbite but she some how makes the reader want a love connection between him and Val. I liked the book, but I thought too much time was spent on Val and the others underground when it should have been spent with Ravus. I think their relationship was the heart of the book but it felt rushed. I didn't... more info
