Editorial Review:

The author of the New York Times bestseller The Idiot Girls' Action-Adventure Club tackles her biggest challenge yet: grown-up life.
In Autobiography of a Fat Bride, Laurie Notaro tries painfully to make the transition from all-night partyer and bar-stool regular to mortgagee with plumbing problems and no air-conditioning. Laurie finds grown-up life just as harrowing as her reckless youth, as she meets Mr. Right, moves in, settles down, and crosses the toe-stubbing threshold of matrimony. From her mother's grade-school warning to avoid kids in tie-dyed shirts because their hippie parents spent their food money on drugs and art supplies; to her night-before-the-wedding panic over whether her religion is the one where you step on the glass; to her unfortunate overpreparation for the mandatory drug-screening urine test at work; to her audition as a Playboy centerfold as research for a newspaper story, Autobiography of a Fat Bride has the same zits-and-all candor and outrageous humor that made Idiot Girls an instant cult phenomenon.
In Autobiography of a Fat Bride, Laurie contemplates family, home improvement, and the horrible tyrannies of cosmetic saleswomen. She finds that life doesn't necessarily get any easier as you get older. But it does get funnier.

  • Dont waste your time.
This is just another men hating book that never sold.
She has way to much time on her hands..

  • Hilarious book
If you need a pick me up, this is the book for you. A friend told me how great this author was and she was right. For those of you girls out there who have grown up with some amazingly hilarious tales of your own, this book is for you. I could find myself relating to Laurie because I am also so clumsy and the odd things that have happened to me in my life rank right up there with her life experiences. Get the book if you want a good laugh.

  • Good But Not Great.
This was a good book. Not great...but good.
Good because the first half of the book was raw, real and witty. You could tell she put alot of effort into the writing leading up to the wedding and the wedding itself. Her self deprecation and pointed observation of the lunacy that surrounds couples and weddings in general made me laugh out loud.
Not great because after the wedding...the book sort of dies. Yes there are some laugh out loud funny moments...but not nearly as many as the first half. It's... more info

  • Short stories that will brighten your day
First time I had read anything by this author and found this group of short stories regarding marriage, new home and wayward pets to name just a few, fun and light. My preference in reading books, is for the chapters to link together in a more continuous storyline, which this book doesn't, but in saying that, I still enjoyed it very much. I loved the stories involving Laurie's mother; the comments attributed to her mother were the funniest I have read in a while!!
